Weekly Updates for April 18: Photos from Palm Sunday, Blessing of the Easter Eggs, and Have a Blessed Easter Triduum!
Stuart Circle Palm Sunday Procession 2019
It was wonderful to see so many Cathedral families at the Palm Sunday procession. We hope you will join us next year for this wonderful Cathedral tradition!
Blessing of the Easter Eggs
Do you know about the tradition of the blessing of the Easter Eggs? The custom of blessing food for Easter arose from the discipline of fasting throughout Lent and the special Easter fast during the Easter Triduum. Easter was the first day when meat, eggs, and other foods could again be eaten. Although not of obligation, the special fast during the Triduum may still be observed as well as the tradition of blessing food for the first meal of Easter. According to custom, food may be blessed before or after the Easter Vigil on Holy Saturday or on Easter morning for consumption at the first meal of Easter, when fasting is ended and the Church is filled with joy. Easter Sunday morning before the 9:00 am Mass, bring your dyed Easter eggs in a basket to the right of the altar.
Before Mass ends, Monsignor Golden will call anyone who brought Easter eggs to retrieve their basket and have the Eggs blessed. Hand the blessed Eggs out to parishioners on the Cathedral plaza. Be sure to take a Blessed egg or two home, and share a part of it with all your guests at your Easter meal!
Have a Blessed Holy Week and Easter!
PREK-MS formation resumes next week!
