FINAL WEEKEND FOR
Crowned with Stars
August 6 | 6:30-7:30p.m.
“A great sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon beneath her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars”
This biblical text is used at Mass on August 15, the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The feast of the Assumption commemorates our belief that at the end of her life, the Mother of God was taken into heaven completely—body as well as soul. In this way, Mary’s Assumption follows closely upon the resurrection of her Son. The Assumption is a unique fulfillment of God’s promise to raise us from the dead.
Fr. Tony will speak about the Assumption on Thursday, August 6 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. The evening will conclude with the recitation of the Fourth Glorious Mystery of the Rosary, which is the Assumption.
This event will take place in-person in the church and will be available online.
All are welcome.
Please register by contacting Joy Weir (
), and indicating whether you plan to participate in person or via livestream.
Every Wednesday at 7:30 a.m. we meet for morning prayer via Zoom. Some of us are more awake than others, but we come together in prayer to start the day with gratitude and hope in Christ. Lauds is about 20 minutes. Deacons Chris and Charles lead Lauds and invite volunteers to lead at different times.
to join the Zoom meeting.
Assisting with Flowers
Parishioners are needed to assist with flower arrangements for the altar: making the arrangements, donating flowers from their garden, and / or contributing funds for the purchase of flowers.
For those interested in making flower arrangements, training will be happily provided. Vases and oasis will be available in the kitchen, and flower arrangements are made on Fridays.
The presence of flowers enhances our worship and ultimately reminds us of the beauty of Almighty God. If you would like to prepare flower arrangements, donate flowers, or make a contribution for the purchase of flowers, please contact Chris Ferrara, office manager (804-359-5651).
rgent Need for Cathedral Ushers
Cathedral Ushers are vital ministers, helping to keep everyone safe, and making sure that our Masses are celebrated beautifully and smoothly. Responsibilities include arriving an hour in advance of Mass to open and check in parishioners, escorting people to their pews, and assisting one another to clean the church after all have departed. There will be training opportunities during the weekend Masses of July 25–26. Please contact Carl Archacki at
if you are interested in serving as an usher and thank you for your generous consideration.
Cathedral Book Club
Our next book club will be on
Racial Justice and the Catholic Church
by Fr. Bryan N. Massingale with Deacon Charles Williams and Deacon Chris Malone as facilitators.
The group will meet on Wednesday:
and Aug 19
from 7:00–8:00 p.m. over Zoom.
If you would like to be on the waiting list for the book club, please email Joy Weir at email@example.com

Parish sponsors accompany those in the RCIA process of conversion and faith formation as companions on the journey. They support those in RCIA with prayer and their own witness to the Christian way of life. Sponsors come to the Tuesday night sessions. Serving as a sponsor fulfills the necessary ministry envisioned by the RCIA process, but it is also an incredibly enriching experience.
If you want to learn more about what is involved in serving as an RCIA sponsor please contact - Maria Thorsen at
